Members of the board of trustees have scheduled a special study session at 7 p.m. Dec. 9 at township hall to consider a new skatepark along with a request for $150,000 in financial support for the facility.
The Northville Skatepark Committee members have proposed the new amenity as a recreational asses and place for youth and others to socialize. The effort was spearheaded by the family of Dominic Duhn who died last year after being struck by a car while skateboarding on Sheldon Road. The project has won the support of the Northville Parks and Recreation Department, Northville Youth Network, the City of Northville and the Northville Public School District.
The group hopes to raise the $500,000 necessary to construct a 10,000 foot skatepark at Millennium Park. A total of $170,000 has already been collected in support of the project.
Those who cannot attend can send a letter or email with comments to the office of the township clerk prior to the meeting. For more information about the skatepark, visit the Northville Skatepark Committee website or Facebook page.
