42nd Art In The Park begins tomorrow in Plymouth

Art In The Park will return to downtown Plymouth for the 42nd year beginning tomorrow, July 8 and continuing Saturday and Sunday.

Organizers said the art show and sale will include 400 artists from 28 states.

In addition to the display of art, the event will feature live entertainment, live art demonstrations and food along with the traditional hands-on children's mural. Visitors during the weekend will be able to watch as a group of chalk artists create a masterpiece with a Star Wars theme, while a different group will be painting live models into a canvas of Jedi art.

Art In The Park began with a small group of 30 artists sharing their passion for art in Kellogg Park in 1980. It is now the single largest art festival in the state, organizers claim.

Entertainment this year will include the Hoaloha Polynesian Dance Group of Michigan. Performances by Kylee Johnson, also known as “Comet Dancer,” a professional hula hoop dancer, are planned along with the familiar human statue and magician George Tait.

Comedy juggler John Park will amuse crowds and children from the audience can become part of the performance during My Adventure Theater shows.

Back by popular demand reggae band Roots Vibrations will perform all three days of the art show and Mr. Bill & His Zcats will take to the streets on Friday night in true New Orleans style. Live vibraphone by John Davis will also be on hand to entertain.

This year, Faygo and Pure Leaf Teas will be distributing free samples of new flavors, organizers promised.

Hours this year are 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. tomorrow, from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 9 and from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 10.

This year, round trip motorcoach shuttle service will be available from Schoolcraft College in Livonia for a $6 fee. Children younger than 6 ride at no cost.
