The annual Roaring Thunder for Vets, a Wounded America charity motorcycle ride, will roll through Romulus this Saturday, July 9, in an effort to raise $30,000 for local veterans.
The city is hosting food and games from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Romulus Historical Park, which will provide a view of the Roaring Thunder motorcycle riders as they pass through. A motorcycle rider with a passion for supporting veterans in the community, Mayor Robert A. McCraight, will be among those participating in the escorted ride.
“Romulus has a rich military heritage, and our community is full of brave individuals who put the freedom of others and their country above everything else,” said McCraight. “I'm proud to have played a role in bringing this fundraiser to our community, and I hope others will join me in supporting our veterans.”
Starting at promptly 10:30 a.m., the Roaring Thunder for Vets motorcycle ride will depart from and conclude at the Motown Harley-Davidson dealership in Taylor,14100 Telegraph Road. The entry fee to participate is $25 per ride and $10 per passenger. Veterans ride for free. Local businesses can sponsor a motorcycle for $250.
The charity motorcycle ride is sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Romulus, Dearborn Heights, Grosse Ile, Southgate, Taylor and Trenton. Funds will go toward veterans who are being helped by non-profits Downriver for Veterans and Foundation 14.
