Missing

Reward offered for puppy stolen at gunpoint

Rocky, a 12-week-old puppy,
was taken during an armed
robbery in Romulus last week.
A Romulus couple robbed at gunpoint last Wednesday are pleading with the perpetrators to return an 12-week-old puppy taken during the crime.

Romulus police responded to a call for help on Mesa Way Street at about 8:37 p.m. June 29 where officers encountered the couple who said they had been robbed by three unknown Black men. The victims had responded to a call for a locksmith at the address from a man claiming to be locked out of his car near the Gateway Townhouses. The man said he needed another key made for his vehicle. The husband, a professional locksmith in a tool-equipped van, explained that he would need to see a driver's license and a vehicle registration proving ownership of the car before he could proceed with making a key.

His wife, who told officers she had just returned home from her job, had accompanied him on the call for service. She brought along Rocky, the couple's recently adopted 12-week-old French bulldog/Boston terrier puppy.

When they arrived at the address, the couple told police they encountered two men dressed in black and wearing masks. The men brandished black handguns at the couple and one of them stuck a gun in the locksmith's back, as he opened the rear of the mobile workstation. The second suspect was pointing a gun at the woman and demanded money from the couple along with the key-making equipment and tools from the truck. When the female victim said she didn't have any cash with her, one of the men snatched the puppy from the vehicle, victims told police.

The two suspects were then joined by a third man driving a silver-colored Ford Fusion. The two men got into the vehicle which left the scene, according to police reports. No shots were fired or injuries were reported, police said.

The couple has made a public appeal for the safe return of their dog and have expressed deep concern for the safety of the puppy. They have reportedly offered a reward for the return of the pet.

Anyone with information regarding the theft or the whereabouts of the puppy is asked to contact the Romulus Police Department at (734) 941-8400.
