Buildings at the former site of the Northville Psychiatric Hospital are being sealed as abatement of hazardous material begins prior to demolition.
Northville Township contracted Asbestos Abatement Inc. for the work, including the clearing around all the building remaining on the property. Clearing has been completed and abatement will begin, officials said.
Northville Township Police officials issued a warning regarding trespassing at the site. During the abatement and demolition operations, heavy equipment and vehicles are traveling around the area, making it unsafe for the public. Security, including remote, motion-detecting cameras are operational and will monitor the site whenever construction activity is not under way.
Police will be notified of any trespassers, officials said.
