This year, $2,000 scholarships were awarded to John Glenn High School students Tina Vu and Ida-alot Wiafee, William D. Ford Career-Technical Center students Ayanna Harris and Justin Taylor and Wayne Memorial High School students A'miya DUralic and Venessa Prush.
The Westland Rotary is an international service organization that has been meeting weekly for more than 50 years in and around the city at lunchtime. The primary purpose of the club is to come together as business owners and try to improve our city.
Annual Rotary Club service projects include bell ringing at Westland Mall for the Salvation Army, partnering with the chamber of commerce for the annual taste fest event, sponsorship of the Wayne-Westland Salvation Army children's summer camp, sponsorship of the Westland Jamboree at the Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center, major sponsor of the Wayne Ford Civic League Thanksgiving dinner for veterans and many other civic events.
Major donations in 2021/2022 included $10,000 for the victims of the Westwood apartment fire, $5,000 to the VFW Bova Hall for development of a children's area, and $5,000 to the veterans for the Thanksgiving dinner.
