Belleville officials hope to see state funding soon

City of Belleville officials are looking forward to the new state budget and the New Year.
Mayor Pro-tem Jesse Marcotte reminded the council members during a meeting last month that efforts from two years ago to secure state funding for the Doane's Landing seawall repair may pay off soon.

Marcotte told his fellow council members that State Rep. Kristy Pagan, D-Canton, had worked to secure $250,000 in state funding for the seawall  and had continued to work toward the funding through two state administrations. He told the council that while it is not finalized yet, it appears that Belleville will receive the funds when Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signs the new state budget.
Mayor Kerreen Conley reminded the city officials that State Sen. Hoon Yung Hopgood had also worked on securing the funds for the city when he was in office.
Conley noted that the city is seeing progress on several fronts and mentioned the new library, building projects by Scott Jones and the reorganization of the Belleville Area Chamber of Commerce.
“There are things on the horizon and we're looking forward to 2020 to see where the city can go,” Conley said.
