Free tax preparation service available for Northville senior residents

The Michigan Philharmonic has received a grant of $65,000 from the Margaret Dunning Foundation to support technology and data system upgrades for the organization as well as support for the orchestra educational programming in the Plymouth Canton Community Schools.
The Michigan Philharmonic serves audiences including students and numerous multi-cultural groups, throughout Southeast Michigan with programs that are innovative and educational, according to Beth Stewart, executive director of the group. The Michigan Philharmonic contributes to the quality of life in the region by serving as a cultural anchor in the community, employing numerous professional musicians and providing programming to a wide range of audiences from children to adults, she said.

A generous grant of support from the Margaret Dunning Foundation has helped the Michigan Philharmonic upgrade dated IT and data systems by funding new computer and software upgrades, a new photocopier, as well as technology for a new donor management system, Stewart explained. In addition, funding was also given to support the educational programs the orchestra brings to the Plymouth Canton Schools in the form of the CLASSical Music Outreach Program. Now in it's 17th year, this program reaches every 3rd and 4th grader in the district with music education programs designed to introduce students to the instruments of the orchestra through the science of sound as well as a special Koncert for Kids for all 4th graders each spring, Stewart said.
"Support from the Dunning Foundation has afforded the orchestra the opportunity to more efficiently administer the programs of our orchestra so we may continue to bring  high quality musical and educational programming to the Plymouth Canton Community," she concluded in a prepared statement.

The Margaret Dunning Foundation was founded by Ms. Dunning in 1997. Ms. Dunning died in 2015 at the age of 104. Her estate provided funding for the Margaret Dunning Foundation, which continues to support her charitable interests and legacy.
