City council chooses president pro-tem

While the upcoming presidential election in Washington D.C. remains an issue in the headlines, the balloting for a city council president pro tem in Westland is complete.
Mike Londeau, elected to his second term on the council in the November, 2019 election, garnered enough support among his fellow council members for election to the post.

Members of the council were unable to elect a president pro tem at their Jan. 6 meeting when Londeau and Councilman Peter Herzberg were in contention for the post.
Neither received enough votes to be elected when Councilwoman Tasha Green voted against both their nominations.
At the meeting last week, Londeau and Herzberg were again both nominated for the position. Councilman Jim Godbout, Councilwoman Andrea Rutkowski and Council President Jim Hart voted with Londeau, who voted for himself.
The council did not vote on Herzberg, who previously filled the president pro tem role, as the four votes gave Londeau the necessary majority.
