Canton property ordered demolished

Julie Brown, Staff Writer

Members of the Canton Township Board of Trustees voted unanimously Jan. 14 to give the owner of the property at 870 Lotz Road 28 days to demolish the structure.
Two neighboring properties also owned by Jeanne and Willie Wyatt of Detroit in Canton Township will come before the Canton Board of Trustees in coming months for action, officials said.

Canton Public Safety Director Joshua Meier noted at the meeting his concern was the  property being secured, as well as possible squatters. Kristin Kolb, corporation counsel for Canton, noted the 870 Lotz property has deteriorated over considerable time, agreeing with the township building official, who also spoke to the board briefly on his findings at the property.
Prior to the unanimous vote, attorney David Nykanen spoke for the Wyatts.
In other township business, the property at 44112 Yost was also unanimously OK’d for demolition that evening and a contract awarded for that work.
