Schools board members select new superintendent

John Dignan
The Wayne Westland Community Schools district now has a new superintendent.
Members of the Wayne-Westland Board of Education took advantage of current technology to choose John Dignan for the job during another electronic meeting May 4. Dignan was the unanimous choice of the board members who selected him by a 7-0 vote.
Dignan, Ed.S. is currently the director of post secondary options and community partnerships in the Southfield Public Schools district. He will leave that post and join Wayne-Westland in July in preparation for the reopening of schools in September following the negotiation and finalization of his employment contract with the district.

“We had two exceptional candidates,” said Board President David Cox. “John comes to us at a time when the district needs and deserves his level of leadership. The citizens have given us their confidence and I think people will see a real difference in our schools.”
During the meeting, board Treasurer Tom Buckalew expressed his confidence in Dignan's selection.
“I'm convinced that Mr. Dignan is the best choice for our district at this time,” Buckalew said.
Those sentiments were echoed by board Vice President Frederick Waver who said, “”It just became apparent to me that Mr. Dignan was ready for the job right now.”
When notified of his selection during a phone call with Cox immediately following the vote, Dignan said he was looking forward to joining the district. He added that he “couldn't wait to get started.”
