The General Motors plant in Romulus will see $17 million in renovations as the automaker begins plans to “move production to the next level.”
General Motors officials said the company will invest more than $100 million in several Michigan plants along with the transition of the Spring Hill TN plant to electric-vehicle manufacturing of the Cadillac LYRIQ.
In the Romulus propulsion plant, the investment will fund enhance automation and increased capacity of the 10-speed truck transmissions produced there.
Those components are used in several GM vehicles, according to the company. The Flint Assembly Plant will see a $32 million investment, The Orion Assembly plant will see an investment of $3.5 million, the Brownstown Township site will receive $750,000 for additional production of the Cruse AV test vehicle and the company will spend $100 million to improve production of the GMC Acadia to Lansing Delta Township Assembly plant. “We are committed to investing in the U.S., our employees and our communities,” said GM Chairman and CEO Mary Barra.“These investments underscore the success of our vehicles today, and our vision of an all-electric future,” she added
