Kiwanis Park home development is approved

The grass and play structures at Kiwanis Park on John Street in Wayne will soon be replaced with 22 new homes.

Members of the Wayne City Council approved the plan of Infinity Homes to build the homes on the property which is near Annapolis and Howe Road.

“This will actually be our first project in the City of Wayne,” noted Infinity Homes owner Rino Soave at the Oct. 6 meeting of the council. “We do a fair amount of work right across the road in Romulus - we've probably built well over 350 homes in Romulus in the last seven or eight years.”

He said that the homes will be designed for both first-time and upgrading buyers and will be considered affordable housing. The project will include both one and two-story houses with full basements and be in the less-than-$300,000 price range.

Soave said the project is “right in our wheelhouse.”

“We're right on the I-275, I-94 corridor. We kind of see Wayne as being one of those communities where a lot of people have grown up there and like to stay there. I'd compare it to Livonia or even a place like Westland,” he told the council members. Construction is expected to start in the first quarter of 2021.

Members of the council also approved an 18-month agreement with Infinity Homes to develop Sue Winn Park, Vandenberg School and Angelo Demario Parks in the city although Soave said there are no plans yet for that property.

“It's a really big piece of land, so you could do some kind of combination between single-family and multi-family,” he said.  “We're really excited to be bringing a new development of housing to the City of Wayne,” Soave said. “I think the city has been really welcoming to us.”
