Library is awarded 3 grants to fund facility upgrades

The Romulus Public Library will be improving public safety and services utilizing funding from three successful grant applications.

The library was awarded the three grants through the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grants from the Institute of Museum and Library Services including $500 for PPE (personal protection equipment) to protect patrons and staff against COVID-19 as the library continues to open to the public.

In addition, the Romulus facility was awarded $5,000 to improve digital literacy in the library and in the community. This grant has been used to purchase mobile hotspots for checkout to patrons that provide internet access on the go, Kindles for checkout, and two laptops for staff to teach technology classes, a spokesman explained.

The library was also awarded a grant of $1,885 which was used to purchase educational Launchpads for checkout to adults and children at the library desk.

The successful grants were written and submitted to the state agencies by the library leadership team.
