Volunteers needed for 3 new city task forces

Northville residents interested in serving on any of three newly approved task forces in the city have until Nov. 10 to submit a letter of interest to city officials.

The three task forces were approved by members of the city council at their regular meeting earlier this month. The purpose, officials said, is to bring people in the community together to work toward the betterment of Ford Field, the Farmers' Market and Rouge River Restoration. The task forces need volunteers to help make that vision a reality, they added.

Members of the new Ford Field Task Force will be charged with creating a plan to re-establish Ford Field as a central gathering space. Roles of the volunteers will include gaining input from community stakeholders, establishing a vision for Ford Field as a central park, producing a needs assessment and management plan, and identifying funding opportunities such as grants and partnerships.

Volunteers serving on the new Farmers' Market Task Force will be responsible for investigating options for future Farmers' Market operations.  Roles of the task force members will include establishing a vision for the market, assessing the needs of all stakeholders, identifying and evaluating potential locations, and identifying funding opportunities such as grants and partnerships.

The newly-appointed members of the Rouge Restoration Task Force will be charged with creating a plan to restore the ecological health of city waterways while improving public access and recreation through the implementation of a trail system referred to as “The Riverwalk.” Roles of the members will include creating a framework plan from which a strategic plan will be developed, conducting a needs assessment, documenting current conditions, identifying grant sources, and producing cost estimates and concept drawing

Volunteers can submit a letter of interest indicating their preferred task force and the background or expertise they would bring to the group to Northville City Hall, 215 West Main St., Northville, MI 48167 by Nov. 10. The letters of interest will be reviewed by Mayor Brian Turnbull and another member of the city council and appointments will be made at the Nov. 16 city council meeting.

Meeting dates and times for each of these task forces will be determined by the new task force members.
