Historic moment
Wayne County Commissioner and former Wayne Mayor Al Haidous, left, helped the Wayne Historical Commission and Society members celebrate a $191,000 grant secured to rehabilitate and remodel the museum building, first constructed in 1878. Haidous made the official announcement of the grant award during a meeting at the museum last week. Officials said that the museum building is "in dire need of repairs and through this grant, this historic building will last for generations to come." The building has housed the Village of Wayne and Nankin Township offices and fire equipment and even served as the Village of Wayne jail. The building, which now houses memorabilia and historic documents, has been designated as a historical site and the State of Michigan Historical Marker was dedicated in October of 1987.
