Parents in Westland received a letter from administrators in the Wayne Westland Community Schools District last week advising them of a knife attack at a school bus stop the morning of Dec. 22.
The two students involved were 9 and 10 years old, according to police reports of the incident.
The 9-year-old was arrested by police and taken to the Westland Police Department, according to reports. The 10-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of head and knee injuries inflicted by a pocketknife.
The altercation took place as the two students at Schweitzer Elementary School were waiting for the bus to transport them to their fourth-grade classes.
Police said the parents of the 9-year-old were interviewed along with the student at the police station. The findings of the police investigation will be submitted to the office of the Wayne County Juvenile Division, officers said.
Neither school officials nor police released any further information regarding the incident.
“The safety of students and staff is our first priority and we are committed to the safety and education of all our students,” district officials said in a letter to parents regarding the incident.
