They are turning over a new leaf at the William Faust Public Library in Westland.
A planned $5.3 million renovation and expansion of the facility is now under way and will include the addition of 7,000 square feet to the building. The current location will remain closed to the public until a potential reopening of the remodeled facility next fall. While the library will remain closed at the current Central City Parkway location, services will be available beginning in late January at the former Marshall Upper Elementary School building on Bayview Street as construction continues.
While online services will continue without interruption, other services including loaning of books and materials will be available at nearby libraries include Canton Township, Garden City and Wayne. Officials said those facilities will honor a Westland library card during the project. Books can be checked out and computers used at those sites.
Among the planned improvements are gathering or meeting rooms. While the current library has two, the renovated building will have 11 gathering or meeting rooms. Those rooms will be open to the public use and will include video conference capabilities.
A new open layout, a programming room, new carpet and paint are all planned for the building.
