Supporter funds special holiday party, gifts for B.L.O.C.K. youth and teens
Canton Connects participants received Beats® wireless headphones and Squishmallows® plush toys donated Maraschinos Pub during an early holiday celebration this month. |
The teens were treated to a holiday celebration, where each member received a gift donated by Maraschinos Pub of Canton earlier this month. During the celebration participants also enjoyed pizza, provided by an anonymous donor, while listening to music supplied by RC DJ and Video Productions.
To help make all of the Canton Connects participants' holiday even sweeter, Maraschinos Pub gave Beats® wireless headphones to the teens and Squishmallows® plush toys to the elementary age attendees. Maraschinos Pub supports numerous Canton Leisure Services programs throughout the year in addition to the Canton Connects program, including Hot Meal Mondays, The B.L.O.C.K.'s Afterschool program, and more, according to Chelsea Straub, Canton recreation specialist.
“This holiday celebration was an enormous success thanks to the big-heartedness of the generous donors who helped make this event happen,” Straub said. “The B.L.O.C.K. Youth and Teen Center is grateful for the generous support we've received from Maraschinos Pub throughout the year, but especially now since these latest donations enabled every student in the Canton Connects program to receive these gifts to help brighten their holiday season.”
The Canton Connects programs are free afterschool programs for qualifying children ages 5-17 within the Canton community. Throughout the year, Canton Youth Connection participants meet for activities, crafts, and field trips, administrators said. In addition, some individuals also participate in free swim lessons at the Summit on the Park.
Canton Teen Connection meets at The B.L.O.C.K. Youth and Teen Center Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from October through June for art classes, cooking classes, tutoring, and more. All Canton Connects participants are provided with enrichment programming that teaches the importance of lifelong fitness and healthy lifestyles, as well as guidance on how to work with others and the ability to work out conflicts, and more, organizers added.
The B.L.O.C.K. Youth and Teen Center, located on the third floor of the Canton Administration Building at 1150 S. Canton Center Road in Canton, MI, provides a teen-friendly environment where students from ages 11-17 can participant in supervised afterschool programs, social events, and activities.
