Donations sought to help Inkster Goodfellows effort

Again this year, the Inkster Goodfellows will be providing meals and gifts to those in need in the community. Originally founded as the old newsboys organization more than 80 years ago in Detroit, the effort now reaches across the country to help the less fortunate during the holiday season.

To help the effort this year, volunteers will assist in collecting donations at intersections throughout Inkster during the annual “No Child Without A Christmas” Goodfellows campaign. Recently, the organization sent letters to local companies, churches, and individuals who might be able to assist in raising funds to help the children in the Inkster community.

Organizers said that ongoing effects of the COVID 19 pandemic have severely impacted fund donation for the effort. The Inkster Goodfellows were forced to forgo their annual efforts the past two years due to the effects of the pandemic, organizers said, leaving many local families without resources they needed and depended on for help. Applications for help from the Inkster Goodfellows have closed for this year.

“We do not want to skip another year in helping the children in our community. We are a 501-C3 organization and the Inkster Goodfellows have been in existence for over 70 years. Great things happen when we unite and work together for a common goal,” explained Barbara J. Cooper, president of the Inkster Goodfellows.

Cooper thanked anyone who could donate or contribute in advance for their help and support of the effort to ensure there is No Child Without A Christmas in the city.
