Passing of John Norton mourned

John Norton
John Norton, the son of former long-time Wayne Mayor Patrick Norton, died Oct. 14.
Mr. Norton, 49, was born April 3, 1970, the son of the late Patrick and Karen Norton. He was born with Down Syndrome and was well-known throughout the community ‘and touched the lives of everyone he met.’ his family said. A Wayne resident, he competed in Special Olympics and participated in community theater at the State Wayne Theatre downtown. He worked at Wendy's on Michigan Avenue for two decades.

Among his survivors are his brothers, Patrick (PJ) Norton and Brian Norton; a sister, Nancy Norton; brother-in-law Martin Garthwaite; sister-in-law Stephane Schechner, and his four nephews, Patrick and Eric Norton and Cole and Dylan Garthwaite.
A celebration of Mr. Norton's life is planned for 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at The Claddagh, 17800 Haggerty Road in Livonia.
