‘Clean Sweep’ set for Saturday in Romulus

Romulus officials have taken spring cleaning seriously.

May has been declared “Romulus Spring Cleaning” in a continued effort to create a sustainable local environment and beautify the community, they said. To encourage residents to do their part in keeping the community clean, city departments have launched several free events and activities, including: Free Dumping Days: Romulus residents with large quantities of bulk items can dump those items for free at the Romulus DPW South Lot on 12600 Wayne Road. Free dumping is available from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. today, May 20 and tomorrow, Friday, May 21 and Saturday, May 22. For more information, call (734) 942-7579.

The annual city Clean Sweep will take place from 9 a.m. until noon this Saturday, May 22 at the Historical Park Pavilion located at 36095 Goddard Road. Supplies will be provided. For more information, call (734) 942-7571.

“Even the smallest tasks, like spending an hour outside on a nice day picking up trash, can go a long way in the beautification of our community,” said Romulus Mayor LeRoy Burcroff. “We all have a role to play in ensuring Romulus remains livable and viable for years to come. We look forward to seeing our residents from a safe distance at the beautification events scheduled this month.”

Declaring “Romulus Spring Cleaning” is part of a continued effort by the city to make Romulus a clean and attractive place to live, work and visit, officials said. The city is also launching a toolkit of materials that residents and local organizations can use to conduct clean-up efforts on their own. To encourage residents to participate in “Romulus Spring Cleaning” month, the city is hosting a Facebook challenge that calls on residents to post photos of their neighborhood clean-ups. To participate in the challenge, residents should use the hashtag #RomulusSpring Cleaning when posting their pictures to Facebook.
