Annual Salute to Service is set for Nov. 11

Canton will pay tribute to area service men and women at the Annual Salute to Service event next week.

The ceremony, which honors area servicemen and women, will begin with a 6 p.m. reception followed by a 7 p.m. program Nov. 11 at The Village Theater at Cherry Hill.

Canton once again honors area servicemen and women who have served or who are currently serving in the Armed Forces. This free event will feature memorabilia displays presented in the vestibule of The Village Theater, followed by the program that will take place on the theater main stage. Speakers will include Herb Scott from the Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund and Navy Petty Ofc,. 2nd Class Keenan Lumpkin from the Veterans Administration Ann Arbor Health Care System.  In addition, the Canton Concert Band will perform. 

“Canton's Village Theater is thrilled to present this free event, which is designed to thank and show Canton's support towards our area's service men and women, and their families,” said Ben Frick, performing arts coordinator.  “Each year, this special tribute brings together the community for a night of celebration and appreciation of those who have put themselves in harm's way in order to protect our country.” 

Veterans Administration Ann Arbor Health System will also be onsite accepting donations throughout the event. Suggested items for donation include, but are not limited to: sweatpants, hoodies, men's basketball shorts, white T-Shirts, boxers and briefs (sizes medium to 2X-Large) as well as men's deodorant, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, razors, denture tabs and adhesive, hair combs, brushes, shaving           cream, and non-alcohol mouthwash. Women's sports bras (no metal or underwires) and women's undergarments sizes (small to X-Large). Food items will also be accepted for snack packs such as granola bars, tuna and crackers/canned meat kits, and cheese/peanut butter and crackers, as well as cases of bottled water.

The public is encouraged to attend this free event - no tickets are required and all ages are welcome to attend. 

The Village Theater at Cherry Hill is located at 50400 Cherry Hill Road in Canton.
