Giving Tuesday

Canton Leisure Services joins effort

Canton Township will join a world-wide event next Tuesday.

Canton Leisure Services will be among the global participants in GivingTuesday set for Nov. 30 this year.

Always marked on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of radical generosity. The movement was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Since then, it has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. Canton Township is in good company as the co-founding organization of the effort was the United Nations.

It's a simple idea:  whether it's making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger, showing up for an issue or people one cares about, or giving some of what we have to those who need help, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to give, according to the organization website. GivingTuesday is an effort to transform communities and the world and the organization of the same name is an independent 501c3 nonprofit that supports the global movement.

In Canton, donations are sought for the groups that benefit hundreds of youth in the community annually. Participants can donate through the Canton Community Foundation at localimpactalliance.org to one or all of the Canton Leisure Services community programs including the Lead #LikeAGirl Scholarship Fund; the Canton Youth Advisory Council Endowment Fund; Camp A.B.L.E.; the Canton Cares Fund; the Leisure Club Fund or the Canton Trails Fund.
