Metro Airport is awarded grant

Metro Airport in Romulus has been awarded $6,578,145 in federal grant funding for improvements at the facility. The funds are from the Federal Aviation Administration grant program, explained Sen. Debbie Stabenow and  Sen. Gary Peters.

Metro airport will receive $5,405,409 to purchase 40 pre-conditioned air units and $1,172,736 to repair taxiways.

“Having reliable and safe air service is crucial for economic development, commerce, and tourism,” said Stabenow.

“This funding is another critical infrastructure investment coming to our state and will improve Oakland County and Detroit Metro airports for years to come,” she added. Stabenow supported the grant application.

“Michigan airports play a critical role in keeping communities and businesses connected to important markets and destinations,” said Peters. “This federal support will help ensure airports throughout the Detroit Metro area can continue transporting travelers safely and efficiently for years to come by making necessary upgrades to critical infrastructure.”
