Pumpkin Fest artwork sought

Members of the Romulus Arts Council are looking for art for the annual Romulus Pumpkin Festival digital guide. Each year, the first-place student art entry is chosen for the cover of the guide and the second and third place winners and two honorable mentions included in the publication.  The first-place winner also receives $200, the second-place winner is awarded $150 and the third place winner will receive $100. The two honorable mention entries each receive $50, officials said.

All students who are Romulus residents are eligible to enter including those from pre-school through grade 12 for the 24th anniversary pumpkin festival guide.

The art must have a fall/pumpkin theme, but no Halloween themed work will be accepted. No wording should be on the artwork which should be at least 8 ½ by 11 and no larger than 11 by 17 inches. Art must be portrait oriented and bright colors in acrylic, watercolor, tempera or pastels is encouraged organizers said. Crayons and colored pencils do not have the vibrancy of the other mediums, they cautioned, so entries should not use those. The artist's name, age, school and contact information should be on the reverse side of the entry.

All interested participants should submit their artwork to the Economic Development Department, located in Romulus City Hall, 11111 Wayne Road in Romulus before Aug. 19. Art entries become the property of the Romulus Arts Council. Winners will be announced and awards presented at the festival where the art will be framed and displayed at the hospitality tent.

The Romulus Arts Council has awarded more than $10,000 to Romulus resident students from pre-school to high school, organizers said.
