Suspect in fatal road rage shooting arrested

Jacor Burch
A second person has been arrested and charged in a fatal road rage shooting that took place June 10 in Canton Township.

Jacor Burch, 21, of Ann Arbor, is facing charges of first-degree homicide and felony firearm possession in the shooting which police described as a road rage incident.  Police investigators believe that he fatally shot Michael Paul, 37, of Belleville, numerous times at around 5:18 in the afternoon of June 10, as a result of a traffic incident which took place on Haggerty Road between Palmer and Michigan Avenue.

The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported from the scene by emergency personnel. He died at a local hospital as a result of the wounds, police said.

It is alleged that following the public shooting, Burch sped away traveling north on Haggerty Road in a gray Chevrolet Equinox. He was arrested in Illinois July 7 and transported to Michigan to face the charges, according to officials.

He was arraigned at 35th District Court and remanded to the Wayne County Jail without the possibility of bond. His arrest followed that of Maria Phillips, 33, of Ypsilanti, who was also charged in the shooting. She was allegedly linked to the shooting by identification of her newer-model white Dodge Ram pickup truck.

Phillips was arrested last week and arraigned on charges of accessory after the fact to a felony. She was also remanded to the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $500,000 cash bond.
