Annual Holiday Tree Lighting set for Wednesday

The official Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration in Canton Township is set to take place from 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4 at the Summit on the Park.
Santa Claus and his reindeer have scheduled a special stop in the township where there will be holiday carols accompanying his arrival just before the official countdown to the lighting of the tree. The tree lighting will take place outside the Summit Banquet Center entrance where additional outside activities include up-close and personal visits with real live reindeer, as well as ice sculpting demonstrations.  Area residents are encouraged to dress warmly and bring the family to the event.

Indoor activities for children include seasonal craft areas that feature a make and take activity.  In addition, children can share their holiday wish list and take a special photo with Santa Claus. Children of all ages can also meet the man who tried to steal Christmas and have their picture taken with the Grinch, who will also be making a special appearance at a photo station  furnished by IKEA. Parents are encouraged to bring their own cameras to capture the moment.  Light refreshments will also be provided inside by Busch's Fresh Food Market. Additional indoor activities include 'Holidays Around the World,' where children can learn about special traditions and festivities celebrated in a variety of different countries.  Dancin' Feet will also be onsite performing festive dance numbers to get everyone into the holiday spirit.
This year, the annual event is sponsored, in part, by: Advanced Orthodontics; Central City Dance; Community Financial;  Glen Abbey Assisted Living and Memory Care;  Lombardo Homes; Primrose School of Canton and The Goddard School for Early Childhood Development.
In the spirit of the season, the Canton Goodfellows will be onsite offering holiday games for a small donation that will benefit the “No Child without a Christmas” campaign that is currently under way.
Donations of new, unwrapped toys are also being accepted through Dec. 6, in the Summit on the Park lobby that will help brighten the holidays for area children in need.
The Kiwanis Club of Canton will be selling a variety of cut live holiday trees as a fundraiser.  Choose from Balsam Fir, Fraser Fir, and Concolor Fir to find that perfect holiday tree. Proceeds from each sale will benefit area youth activities. For additional information about the Kiwanis Club of Canton tree sale, visit www.facebook.com/CantonMIkiwanis.
