Canton site selected for new veterans’ health clinic

It has been more than five years in planning but construction on the new $12-$15 million veteran's health care facility in Canton Township is expected to begin soon.
The state-of-the-art facility will offer primary care, mental health care, laboratory and pathology and imaging services for veterans in the new 40,000 square-foot complex to be constructed on North Lotz Road near the intersection of Ford Road and I-275, officials said.

The location in Canton, near the Westland border, was selected following several years of study and analysis, explained Veterans Administration Public Affairs Officer Brian Hayes. The site was chosen based on factors including a demonstrated need to serve more veterans in western Wayne County and ease of access with  close proximity to the I-275 and Ford Road interchange, he said.
The community-based Veterans Administration (VA) Healthcare System clinic is expected to improve convenience for 12,000 to 14,000 area veterans when the facility becomes operational sometime in 202l, government officials said.
“The feedback we've received from veterans on this has been astonishing,” Hayes said.  “And it's been nothing but positive. The traffic this news has generated on our social-networking sites has far exceeded anything we've shared in the past two years.”
“We began work on this project back in 2014,” said Medical Center Director Dr. Ginny Creasman.
“Getting a new clinic approved is a big deal and involves a lot of stakeholders.  So, we're honored to be able to get this done and bring our services closer to home for so many of our Veterans. “It's going to make it so much more convenient for them to get the care they've earned.”
