Rain or shine, the volunteers prepare the meals and deliver them to school buildings throughout the district where families can pick them up. Food distribution is set to begin again Dec. 7 following an interruption for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Pick up times for food are usually 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., while Adams, Franklin, Stevenson and Tinkham are 10 a.m. until noon on separate days of the week. Wayne Memorial High School distribution is from 10 a.m. until noon and 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. on Mondays while John Glenn High School hours are from 6:30 until 8:30 and 10 a.m. until noon on Wednesday.“As a community, state and nation, we have seemed to hit the wall in our fight against the spread of COVID-19. There has been a dramatic increase in the number of COVID-19 cases over the past several weeks and the term “COVID fatigue” has been heard more and more,” noted Superintendent of Wayne Westland Schools John Dignan.
“After eight months of cancelled plans, uncertainty, worry, and continuous efforts to mitigate the spread, we are all just getting tired of 'dealing with this.' We are all hitting our wall. But now is the time where we must dig deep, help each other, remind each other, and conquer the wall together.“Thanks for all you do and for making a difference. I encourage everyone to do their part and remain committed to following safe practices and protocols that we know effectively slow the spread of COVID-19 and help all of us as a community to overcome this wall.
“Please try to refrain from being in large crowds and continue to follow all of the safety measures to help combat COVID-19.“As soon as we have updates and more information, we will share it with you. We are thankful for your partnership as we work together to promote the learning, safety, health and well-being of all,” he concluded in a statement posted on the district website.
“Please remember, wash your hands and mask-up Wayne-Westland,” he concluded.
All photos of the volunteers were taken prior to the mask requirements.
