Inkster man faces murder charge in fatal shooting of brother

Roderick Phillips, 50, of Inkster was due in court yesterday for a probable cause conference on charges he shot and killed his 57-year-old brother during an argument.

Prosecutors allege that Roderick Phillips fatally shot Michael Phillips, also of Inkster, during a disagreement just before 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 13.

Police dispatchers sent officers and an ambulance to a home in the 2600 block of Ross Street after receiving the emergency 911 call at 11:47 p.m.

Responding officers discovered Michael Phillips lying on the floor of the home suffering a gunshot wound to the chest, according to police reports. Medical responders from the Inkster Fire Department treated the victim, but Michael Phillips succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Police investigators claim that an argument between the defendant and the victim escalated, resulting in the fatal shooting.

Roderick Phillips was charged with second degree murder and felony firearm violations.

He was arraigned in 22nd District Court and his probable cause conference set for yesterday.
