History of a sort will be made in Canton Township tomorrow when the first-ever food truck brings a renown seller of barbeque ribs to Cherry Hill Village.
The famous Slows Bar-B-Q restaurant will park the Slows to Go food truck just west of the fountain in Cherry Hill Village during specific hours including noon until 9 p.m. Saturdays and noon until 6 p.m. Sundays. Other hours have not yet been announced but Slows managers said the hours could be expanded as demand grows. The truck will be fulfilling cravings for smoky sweet barbeque ribs in Canton for about a month.
That time could be extended, officials said, if all goes well. The one-month permit duration is the first in the township where food trucks have only been permitted for a few days at a time.
The restaurant management will rent the location from the township for $250, which will be used in the community improvement fund, officials said.
Township officials said the change in duration was partially due to lack of a food-truck ordinance in the community, with the exception of special event permits. When the restaurant managers suggested parking the truck near Canton Center and Joy roads in the former union building parking lot, Canton officials suggested Cherry Hill Village as an alternative.
The Slows truck would usually be extremely busy feeding summer festival goes and graduation party guests, but the pandemic has changed many business models during the past months. Slows management said the new location is ideal because of the population density and they are hoping the location will prove a financial success.
