Pheasant Run hosts state-wide golf tournament

Continuing a decade long tradition, Pheasant Run Golf Club in Canton Township was the site of the Michigan Publinx Medal Play tournament last month.

The annual tournament drew 82 contestants this year to the 54-hole event which is presented by the Michigan Publinx Golf Association (MPGA). 

Contestants competed in a 2-day tournament within two divisions.  The winner this year of the Championship division was Grant Haefner of Bloomfield Hills, who finished at six under par at 210.  Sean Friel of Rochester Hills, was second with two under par at 214 and Austin Kreger of Harrison Township, finished third with one under par at 215. 

The winner of the Senior Scratch division was Jeff Depew of Howell who finished two over par with a score of 218.  Joseph Johnson was second with six over par at 222 and Frank Comito finished third with eight over par at 224. 

Known as one of the oldest and most respected golf organizations in the state, the Michigan Publinx Golf Association was founded in 1951.  Along with the Golf Association of Michigan (GAM) and the Professional Golfers Association of America (PGA), the Michigan Publinx Golf Association is one of the original organizations established to serve golfers in the State of Michigan.
