Canton Township will celebrate the end of summer with a band tomorrow night. Plans include food, live music and fireworks at the Canton Township Picnic in the Park set for 5 until 9 p.m. Sept. 24 in Heritage Park.

Visitors can enjoy food choices from area restaurants and food trucks, popular music artists performing on two stages leading up to the fireworks extravaganza scheduled to begin at dusk.

"We're hoping friends and neighbors grab their big blankets and head over Heritage Park, where they'll be able to pick a spot for their picnic and watch our live music performances, choose from a variety of great local eats and drinks, and then sit back and enjoy some amazing fireworks," stated Jon LaFever, Canton Leisure Services deputy director.

"Canton has a well-respected tradition for its fireworks, and although this event is much more low-key than our previous Liberty Fests, we hope that area residents will enjoy this type of casual fall event that culminates with some of the best fireworks around," LaFever said.

Featured entertainment will include performances at the Amphitheater, as well as on the Canton LIVE Stage, which is located at the Heritage Park soccer fields on the north side of the park. The Amphitheater Stage performance will feature Packin Heat Band from 5 until 6:30 p.m.; Killer Flamingos from 7 until 8 p.m. and an encore performance by Killer Flamingos following the Fireworks. Live music will also be performed on the Canton LIVE Stage, with Motor City Sensation from 5 until 6:30; CrasherZ Band from 7 until 8 p.m. and an encore performance by CrasherZ following the Fireworks.

Participating food trucks and area restaurants include: Great Lakes Confections; Impasto; Maraschinos Pub; PizzaPazza and more others. A Beer and Wine Garden will also be available within the Amphitheater area on the south side of Heritage Park for individuals 21 and older.

Picnic in the Park participants will be expected to follow Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) guidelines that may be in place at the time of this event.  Spectators are also encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs to ensure that every guest can enjoy this outdoor community celebration.

A convenient Uber, Lyft, parent drop-off/pick-off spot has been designated on Civic Center Boulevard in front of the Canton Public Library main entrance. All event Welcome Booths will also feature children's wristbands that can be filled out to include their parents' contact details, in case parties become separated during the event. Event-goers are also reminded that all bikes must be parked in park bike corrals.

There is no admission fee to attend this outdoor event and parking is also free. For more information, visit www.cantonfun.org or call (734) 394-5460.
