Parks and Recreation offices return to Hillside

The offices of the Northville Parks and Recreation Department are returning to the Recreation Center at Hillside Middle School.

Following completion of a renovation as part of the new school facility construction project, the recreation center opened for programming Sept. 7.

Visitors now will have access to more convenient parking, a dedicated entrance and interior improvements like family changing rooms and an observation window into the gym, explained Northville Parks and Recreation Director Mark Gasche.

The administrative staff has new offices as well. Patrons who want to register for programs, rent a facility or register for a dog park membership can now do so at the Hillside offices rather than township hall, where temporary facilities were housed during construction. Residents may also register for classes online at www.northvilleparksandrec.org.

“We look forward to serving residents back at our home base of over 40 years,” said Gasche.

The upgrades to the school were made possible through a $104.85 million school bond approved by voters in 2017 that revamped the 70-year-old middle school structure.

Northville Parks and Recreation is a shared service of the Charter Township of Northville and City of Northville and is overseen by a commission comprising elected officials from the township and city, along with a representative from the Northville Board of Education.

“One of the first changes visitors will notice is the Baseline Road driveway entrance is closed, so you enter from North Center Street,” said Gasche.

Parking is closer, too, and the recreation center has a dedicated entrance, south of the main entrance at 775 N. Center St.

“We are excited to re-open this space and expect our community will enjoy it for many years to come,” Gasche said.

Recreation Center at Hillside business hours are 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. with programming occurring evenings and weekends as well.  For more information, contact the offices at (248) 349-0203 ext. 0.
