Second time around

For the second time in his law enforcement career, Wayne Police Sgt. Nicholas Boruta, center, was honored as the city 2020 Officer of the Year in ceremonies earlier this month. Boruta was selected for the honor by the department awards committee, which includes patrol officers, command officers, and Police Chief Ryan Strong, left.  Boruta was selected due to his consistent professionalism, calm demeanor, and ability to mentor younger officers, according to the proclamation at the regular meeting of the Wayne City Council, read by Mayor John Rhaesa, right. Strong told the council members and audience that Boruta “was the lead investigator on a fatal shooting in 2020 and did an excellent job. I have worked with Sgt. Boruta in several capacities during his career, and I have always found him to be hard working and professional. He is a true asset to this department,” Strong said.”
