Harvey Street work continues

Construction on Harvey Street in downtown Plymouth continues with the scheduled installation of a new water main installed below the cement enclosed portion of the Tonquish Creek, which runs underneath the roadway.

Some interruptions in water service are possible as the new main is connected, officials said. Those affected will be notified by letter.

This week, crews moved into the intersection of Penniman and Harvey to continue the reconstruction of the roadway. Only the southern half of the Penniman and Harvey intersection is closed to help alleviate the traffic concerns. Traffic can still enter Penniman by traveling on southbound Harvey and turning left onto Penniman. Eastbound Penniman traffic is closed at Church Street and will be detoured.

Crews are also continuing to build the road base on Harvey between Penniman and Ann Arbor Trail. The concrete will take a week to cure after pouring. During that time, additional crews will begin work on sidewalks and drive approaches behind the curb concrete work. Walkers, bicyclists, and visitors have been asked by officials to use alternate sidewalks and paths to visit downtown and avoid Harvey Street.
